SEOUL---CJ Entertainment prexy Kim Joo-sung has been named as the most influential figure in the Korean film industry for the first time.

Kim topped the 13th annual "Power 50" list published in the recent edition of film weekly magazine Cine21, which is voted for by 85 leading film industry personalities and observers. Previously in second place, he swaps places with Tcha Seung-jai of Sidus.

CJ Entertainment headed by Kim is taking the most critical role as the key investor and distributor in industry that is struggling this year. CJ Entertainment currently manages numerous biggest budget titles which will be released 2008, including "The Good, the Bad and the Weird", "Modern Boy" "The Divine Weapon" "Kang Chul-joong" and "Thirst".

Slipping to No.2 was producer Tcha Seung-jai of Sidus FNH, who previously topped in two consecutive years on the list. Unchanged in the ranks were Cinema Service founder and "Kang Chul-joong" helmer Kang Woo-suk was at No. 3, followed by Mediaplex CEO Kim Woo-taek at No.4; with helmer Bong Joon-ho at No. 5.

Rounding out the top 10 were MK Pictures producer Shim Jae-myung, Lotte Entertainment CEO Kim Kwang-seop, actor Song Kang-ho ("The Host"), helmer Park Chan-wook and Yoo In-chon, the former actor and newly inaugurated Minister of culture, sports and tourism as the first time entry at No.10

Among the actors and actresses on the list, Cannes winner Jeon Do-yeon was ranked at 17, Jang Dong-geun (upcoming in "Laundry Warrior") at 23, Lee Byung-hun ( upcoming in Paramount's "G.I. Joe") at 49. Korean Wave superstar Rain (a.k.a. Jeong Ji-hoon, "I'm a Cyborg, but that's O.K." "Speed Racer" ) also entered the list for the first time at 36.

Helmers included Kim Ji-woon("The Good, the Bad and the Weird") at No.12, Lee Joon-ik ("Sunny") at No.14, Choi Dong-hoon ("Tazza") at 29.

Jang Dong-gun and Kim Tae-hee have been selected as the most popular male and female actors for the 1st half of 2008. The most popular in singer section are Rain and Wonder Girls while Yoo Jae-suk and Shin Bong-sun are the most popular in the comedian section.

Marketing research firm Lee’s PR & Research Ltd announced the result of entertainer popularity survey for 1st half of 2008 which it conducted on 1,404 people aged 13 to 65 in 5 big cities nationwide from 25 to 31 March 2008.

In the male movie actor and TV drama actor section, Jang Dong-gun defended his No.1 position which he has held since 2nd half of 2005 with 25.4% (Translator’s Note: should be 1st half of 2005). Jo In-sung took the 2nd place (19.2%) and No.3 is Ahn Sung-ki (7.1%). Others in the top ten include Kwan Sang-woo, Bae Yong-joon, Jung Joon-ho, Won Bin and Jung Woo-sung - Kang Dong-won - Choi Bo-ram (joint 10th place)

In the female movie actor and TV drama actor section, Kim Tae-hee rose from last year 2nd half’s No.4 to No.1 with 16.0% and overtook Jeon Ji-hyun (8.5%). Kim Ha-neul and Choi Jin-sil whose TV drama are currently showing took the joint 3rd place with 8.4%. Others in the top 10 include Lee Young-ae, Kim Hye-soo, Han Ji-min, Song Yoon-ah, Kim Hye-ja and Song Hye-kyo.

In the male singer section, Rain with 15.7% support votes took No.1 position for the 6th consecutive time. Lee Seung-ki who gathered popularity through ‘1 night, 2 days’ corner in KBS2 TV’s ‘Happy Together’ rose to 2nd place with 11.8%. They were followed by BigBang, Tae Jina and SG Wannabe.

For the female singers, Wonder Girls took the No.1 position with 20.0% while 2nd place went to Girl Generation (18.7%). Lee Hyo-ri who held No.1 position since 2nd half of 2006 dropped to No.3 (18.2%). She was followed by Jang Yoon-jung and Jewelery.

In the male comedian section, Yoo Jae-suk confirmed his unique popularity with 51.1% while Kang Ho-dong took the 2nd place with 24.4%. They were followed by Park Myung-soo, Shin Dong-yub and Jung Jong-chul.

For female comedian, Shin Bong-sun maintained her No.1 place with 45.9%. She was followed by Park Mi-sun, Jo Hye-ryun, Kim Mi-hwa and Jung Sun-hee.

For sportsman section, Park Ji-sung defended his No 1 position with 47.2% while Lee Seung-yub and Park Tae-hwan took the joint 2nd place with 18.0%.

In the sportswoman section, Kim Yun-a took the No.1 place with an overwhelming support of 69.4%. She was followed by Pak Se-ri, Kim Mi-hyun and Michelle Wie.

That's the camera, not that insanely good-looking model holding the camera. I bet his AMOLED is more than a couple inches long. Ahem.

Anyway, it's got a 10.2-megapixel sensor, plus a 24mm ultra optical wide 3.6x zoom lens. It can record video at 30fps, in 1280 x 720 resolution (720p ain't bad for a small point and click), and uses Samsung's DRIM Engine II high speed processing technology. Face recognition and red eye fix are also mentioned. Should be available in the coming weeks, priced at £249.

Continental goes into 'Laundry' business

SEOUL -- Specialty finance and investment company Continental Entertainment Capital on Wednesday said it is investing in the $47 million Korea-U.S. co-production "The Laundry Warrior."

The film recently wrapped principal photography in New Zealand. It is produced by Barrie Osborne ("Lord of the Rings"), Michael Peyser ("Ruthless People") and Lee Joo-ick ("Seven Swords") for their Sad Flutes production shingle.

The film's total production capital comes from a combination of CEC and third-party equity.

"We believe there is a strong crossover appeal for this film," Jeffrey Andrick, CEC managing director, said in a statement released at the Hong Kong Filmart.

Written and directed by first-time filmmaker Lee Sngmoo, "The Laundry Warrior" is the story of an Asian warrior who hides in the American badlands.

"It starts with a remarkable story and when you factor in marquee producers and a cast that includes Geoffrey Rush, Kate Bosworth and Jang Dong-gun, you have a film as promising as any other out there," Andrick said.

Launched in April 2007, CEC is a subsidiary of Continental Entertainment Group.

Kathy Morgan International is selling international territories while Osborne and Peyser are handling North American distribution rights.

Because when I was writing my report about Ahn Sung-ki’s protest on my blog, I had a thought -- “if JDG were to stage the protest, how it would be like”. I also had a doubt -- “the popularity of JDG as the most handsome star of this era has reached the peak now, would it be possible for him to accomplish his ‘one-man protest’?” my personal answer would be ‘absolutely impossible’. Ahn Sung-ki or Park Joong-hoon could finish their one-man demonstration in a ‘peaceful atmosphere’, but I was sure it would not be the same for JDG. Anyway, I arrived at the location at about 12 o’clock. At that time, it was still peaceful and quiet like in ‘the eye of the typhoon'.
At about 12.40 pm, I went back to the spot, this time ‘the event’ has heated. The surging crowd of about a thousand people seemed hard to be controlled. Mainly made up of young women or young girls, there were also ajumma, ajeoshi, male and female workers in uniform. They were communicating to each other that ‘he’ hadn’t come. There were also over eager people who had climbed up a big zelkova tree in front of Kyobo life building.

About 5 minutes to 1 pm, JDG came out from Kyobo Life building. There were young men who looked like bodyguards clearing the way and also Ahn Sung-ki, whom I interviewed a couple of days before was following him. I was standing over a flowerbed on the side of the door they were coming out. The guards came down and desperately shouted, but many people who were there didn’t listen. I too didn't care about my reputation; I was standing on a 30cm high boundary stone of the flowerbed. I could barely see JDG who was wearing hooded beige quilted windbreaker from behind. Now on this blog, I couldn’t tell about his ‘effect’ there, but honestly, it was magnificent. He made the young girls/fans shriek and scream.

All the time, I could hear shriek-like screaming. There were not only one or two young girls who were jumping up and down. In the situation, there was a young girl who was ‘live broadcasting’ the event to her mother through cellular phone. “Mom? It’s me. JDG is really jjang (the best). I’ve never seen such a handsome oppa in my life, really gorgeous, wow!” JDG could not stand still, pushed by the surging crowd. He barely managed to stand on the boundary stone of the flowerbed. Anyway my heart started to beat faster; it seemed that an accident would happen. Why I couldn’t see the policemen on guard. I stepped backward and down from the boundary stone and entered the building .At that time JDG’s party was also pushed out from the place, passing the flowerbed and entering the building. This time I managed to see JDG’s expression. He looked a bit scared when he made his way through the flowerbed. The expression reminded me of a certain scene in ‘Taegukgi’. Suddenly, I was also getting scared. Please, don’t let an accident happen. Later the news reported that 2000 people were gathered at that time.

Anyway, I went inside the building and I have been standing by the elevator for a while. Just then JDG came towards me. At that moment I asked him loudly, "excuse me, what do you think of (the situation) just now?" Why on earth did I ask him what his 'thought' of the situation, even I myself think it was too much? It was good that 'the power of age' could be used at times like this. I racked my brain; I asked a guard, "Is Mr. Ahn Sung-ki already at this floor too?" Since I looked like an ‘authorized person’, without saying anything the guard let me in.

We walked up to the door of ‘Lovely’ restaurant that I had visited before; the guard politely led the way for me, as if I was an ‘authorized person’. Finally, I entered their hiding place. Because I was wearing the same badge, Ahn Sung-ki looked at me rightly. I asked him “Do you remember me? I had an interview with you two days ago”. The courteous gentleman smiled widely and answered, “Oh yes”. When I asked for his business card, he said, “I don’t have it, please ask my manager”.

Directly opposite me, JDG who was wearing arabesque patterned beige colored sweater was slightly leaning forward. I could see the ‘handsome actor’ closer than when in front of elevator a moment ago. Looking at his bright smiling face, I instantaneously recalled the high praise words of Chinese director Chen Kaige who visited Korea sometime ago. “JDG’s eyes are like those of a 3 years old child; very pure. He is an actor who comes out once in 500 years”. At that brief moment, Kang Shin-jae’s novel ‘The young zelkova tree’ also popped up in my head. It was a novel from a very long time ago, but because of its touching lines, I would always remember the novel. The story is about a beloved older brother and it started with the line “He always smells like soap”. The ‘smell of soap’ image rightly came up when I was looking at JDG.

He was born in 1972 which means he is now a 35 years old bachelor, but when we look at this popular star, he looked like a post graduate student in mid 20s, which explains why females, from young girls cheered wildly for him.
He looked at me when I requested for his business card and with a shy smile he said, “I don’t have business card, (please ask) my manager… “
Everyone was right! There is ‘aura’ on JDG’s face. Maybe it would not be easy to comprehend, but I was surprised, though JDG is an actor at his ‘prime time’ I didn’t sense ‘sexual allure’ but I could see the ‘childlike’ unstained pureness that was coming out from inside. It is probably caused by his ‘acting’ or I hadn’t really known the real JDG’s natural looks. Anyhow in these days where ‘sex appeal’ prevails and ‘sexy’ trend dominates, his boyish looks momentarily surprised me. Therefore he and ‘the young zelkova’s refreshing soap scent’ were most likely to overlap. The epithet of ‘the most handsome man of our time’ is tagged after JDG, but there are also some people who would disagree’.

I’ve certainly heard quite a lot about this ‘fine actor’, but today being face to face with him and having a good look of him, I realized that ‘handsome actor’ was not a groundless title. Rather than simply handsome, he looked like the ‘charming and kindhearted prince’ in ‘manhwa romance’. Director Chen Kaige said that his eyes were beyond words, pure and deep. It may sound like an excessive compliment, but somehow, the impression I got was just like that. If he had made a request, I felt that it would be impossible to refuse. Anyway, he was an actor that made us harbor various fantasies momentarily.

I said to JDG, “the incident made me very worried”. He replied with a truly regretful look on his face, “I’m sorry. It was not well prepared”. I was looking at his face all the while. I thought his expression was ‘warm/kind but also cool’. Now I’d say, I felt happy that I had met this ‘extremely handsome actor’.

Anyhow, the ‘one man protest’ had failed and now they are about to have a ‘special strategy meeting’. But it’s ludicrous that people who didn’t know had come and were rampaging. In the ‘turmoil’, some cameraman said ‘hold on please’ and asked me to move aside. It would be more difficult to stay there. I came in to get help on information with email from manager.

Ahn Sung-ki’s manager, when asked why they could not predict the situation, answered, “We expected a big crowd, but not to this extent”. I would say they did not realize ‘the power of top star JDG’. Anyway, JDG’s one-man protest against screen quota cut had to be ended.

Fans were still standing at their position in front of the escalator when I was got outside. There were various groups of people; groups of primary school students, junior high schoolgirls, female college students and even aunties. When I asked some people why they liked JDG, most of them gave me an expression that said ‘why you have to ask the obvious’, some answered that “He is the most handsome man”. Some people said, “I like him just because he is JDG”. A group of schoolgirls skipped classes to go there early. After about 1 to 2 hours, there were still many people in front of Kyobo building. Two aunties in their 40s looked very disappointed, “JDG has left”. Sounds of regret were coming from all directions.

When I got home and switched on the TV, ‘JDG party’ had moved to the front of the General Assembly in Yuedo. On the TV screen, JDG who carried out his protest from 2.30 pm to 5 pm together with the news reporters was shouting the slogan:

February 5th at dawn, Ahn Sung-ki who was fast asleep because exhausted of one-man demonstration, was awaken by phone call from Jang Dong-gun. JDG wanted to do the one-man protest before attending Berlin Film Festival, he set out to replace the director of 'the King and the Clown' Lee Jun-ik who had been unofficially decided as the 3rd participant. However on February 6th the third relay of one man demonstration by JDG had to be ended after only 5 minutes because of reporters and fans stampede, and eventually the protest moved to the front of National Assembly. A movie official commented, "After JDG one-man protest the support against (screen quota) reduction is rising, just the fact that more citizens have interest in the problem is already a success."

In my memory, the starting of Korean-Pop in China originated from HOT. And the eminence of Korean drama originated from Jang Dong Gun. At that time all my female friends were either a fan of Ann Jaek Wok or Jang Dong Gun. And there was a girl because of JDG did a photo album and a special book with news clippings, she also swore that in her lifetime she would only marry her "Lee Jung obba" (DG's character name in drama "Model" in 1997). At that time when we were all surrounded by Korean Wave, I too cannot escape and became a fan of NRG, I learned Korean language, watched Korean drama and listened to Korean music. Jang Dong Gun is very well mannered and humble. When I was waiting for him in his hotel room, my back was facing the door, without any declaration he appeared behind of me. Actually I had prepared many difficult and probing type of questions, but when I was faced with his polite,well-mannered and yet tire smile, I absolutely cannot make myself to question him further. I know that as a reporter my work cannot involved any of my own personal emotions, but suddenly I was overwhelmed with many different type of emotions; His hard work, his endeavor, his fatigue, his cooperation and amenability...I cannot be so cruel to him. I cannot help it and told his translator: "Great, I am done with my questions, you guys better get a good rest", then facing him I said a word "fighting !". According to Korea media, JDG had recently completed shooting his new movie "Laundry Warrior" in New Zealand and had returned to Korea at the end of February. Then the big moment is here. We were ask to form a line to enter the auditorium. I was very lucky and had a great
seat where I was very close to the stage. On both side of the stage had 2 large posters with DG's pictures. There were 3 single white sofa, a table filled with some things, and two luggage bag on the stage. When everyone was seated the screen started with clips from the movies that DG had played starting from "The Promise" and ending with "TaeGuk-Ki". Then we see a silhouette behind a screen (made by a huge piece of cloth) , the crowd cheered loudly and everyone was very excited and we heard DG's beautiful voice saying "Hi" to us. Then silence, the silhouette was gone, the auditorium light was turn down, then the screen for released down, when all of us were thinking that we would see
him on the stage, we heard the sweet familiar voice from behind saying "actually I am here" and the spotlight was on
him. The fans were all excited and many ran to him. He was as gorgeous as usual. His hair is shorter, he looks
really refreshing, and very very young (I swear to you guys that he does not look like his age, and I am not bias) and had put on some healthy weight. He was in a white suite and pants and his shirt
was white but with many light blue prints on it. (Please don't ask me what shoes he wore because it was lucky
enough that I could look at his clothings as I cannot get over just gawking at his beautiful face all the time.)
He really have great complexion that I would kill for. He was walking towards the stage all the surrounded by the fans (of course he was guarded by the staff members). As
I was too busy and mesmerized just starring at his face all this time. After he was up at the stage, I heard some exciting lucky fans saying that they manage to shake his hands. There were simultanous English translation so we who does not speak Korean will be able to
understand what was going on. The MC of the day was not Goh Hyung Jin but Kim Jae-dong. After DG introducing
him to us , they set down on the sofa. The MC said that whenever he saw DG, DG reminded him of the true meaning of a good looking guy.

(NOTE: The sequence of my recap might not be the most accurate since all this are from my limited memory. So please forgive me if there are inaccuracy. Also I will not be able to write down all the conversation that took place, I
will only recap the highlight of the conversation aka those that I can remember.)

The first section was about DG travelling habits and his New Zealand trip. DG said that he had travel extensively
around the world but he had never been to Latin America and Africa. He had many luggage bag and most of them
are really huge. The one he brought on stage was the 2 smaller ones. And the smallest one he used for China and Japan trip. The MC ask him to demonstrate to us how he carries his luggage and he did. He was so adorable when he was doing that. He really look a like a school boy. He gently lift up the luggage handle and pulled the luggage (just like what all of us do though I got to say he got to be the most stylist person I have seen) and smoothly make a few steps, he even pushes the luggage bag back and forth a couple of times. He did that twice one with a black 26' inch bag and another with the 23' bag (that is my estimation of the bag size so I could be wrong). Then there was a home video made by DG (aka he is the cameraman and the commentator) from New Zealand. He said he spent about six months in NZ so he rented an apartment and try to make it feel like home. In the clips we got to see his room, kitchen, dining and living room, laundry room and even bathroom and his closet. His apartment had a great view of the sea and he said he likes to go to his balcony to look at the sea. He also said that he can travel freely in NZ as most people do not recognize who he is at all. He even showed us outside of his apartment that he lived with. His room has three portable heater in it and besides his bed are filled with books. He lives with one of his manager and there
was also like a study room where a laptop and printers were available. His closet was not very tidy when the clips
was shot so he apologize and said timidly maybe he should not have shown us that (how cute!!). He said shooting
usually starts at 5.30am on the weekdays and on the weekends he will have free time. He spends most of the time
in his apartment or around his apartment. He said while he was in NZ, he missed his fans. He also mentioned that the environment in NZ
is different from in Korea.

He also shared with us about the general plot of Laundry Warrior (I will not give out any spoilers here but it
seems like a very interesting, intriguing and different fantasy type of movie. And we will get to see DG as the Best Oriental warrior !!) and that the first part which is the shooting part of the movie had already completed and the second part which is the post production part of the movie
should be completed by October and we should be able to see the the movie either by the end of this year of
early next year. He does seems to think that it will be an interesting movie.

His earnest , shy and at times playful look when he was showing his answer during the game was such a delight to watch. It was hilarious to see his cute curious expression when the audience showed disbelief that his waist size was 32inch. He said " all of you really don't believe that is my waist size?" He said when he first debut his waist size was 28inch, when he was the heaviest it was 34 inch, after he lost weight in typhoon it became 30inch and now he is 32 inch. (he is so cute, trying to explain to us and in a way convince us)

And also the answer about his nickname was a surprise to me. Everyone would think it might be "cow", "big eyes", or "gold fish". But wrong !! It is actually a girlfriend of a very popular Japanese character named Arumi. GIRLFRIEND? DG said that when he was in elementary school because he has very long eye lashes, many people mistaken him as a girl !!! In fact, many are not able to tell whether he is a male or female (no wonder I sometimes thought that he is more beautiful than his female co-star). His expression when he talked about that was priceless. They are no words I could use to describe it. The shyness, the innocence and the embarrassment. (sigh... so adorable)

Then they were greeting messages from other stars in video clips form. Those stars include Shin Mina, Won Bin, Jun Jin Mo, Ha Ji Won and Goh Hyung . In fact, Goh Hyung Jin, Hyung Bin, Han Jae Suk and Shin Mina were sitting in the front row during the first part of the program. With the request from the audiences, they were introduced and they stood up one by one to greet us (how sweet of them).

Finally, it was the Questions and Answers session. DG picked up 2 questions each from Adonis Korea, Japan and International. I cannot really recall all the questions so I will write down what I can remember from his answers.
He said that he has not picked up a new project but he is trying to focus on looking for a small scale movie so that we can see him
more often on screen (since the big scale movie usually take much longer time to prepare and shoot). He has never made any decision whether he will act in drama or movie particularly. He is considering both. He said in the past he always choose role
that are of very strong characters and he really wants to be in a character that he wants to show a softer side of him and maybe have some resemblence of himself.

Then we have a short break before the second part begin.

PS: I really have a good time just starring at DG. As I do have a great seat and was able to have a great look
at him it was such a joy to see his gesture, expression and demeanor. He is really a very soft, gentle, well
mannered, shy and boyish person. There was one part when the MC and him was still talking and the video clips from NZ suddenly appeared on the screen, he was surprised and in a rather cute confuse look , sheepishly he said "why am
I there?" And I love the expression he gave when the cameraman capture Goh Hyun Jin from the crowd. The easiness, gratitude and adoration he has for his friends is so touching.

Hi Everyone,

I could remember last year when Just JDG forum was still up and running, a group of us tried to give everyone the latest updates about THE Birthday party events. As I would like to make this a little trend for the website with
the permission from the webmistress I am going to try to write a little about the event to share with everyone who cannot join us. Unlike last year our chase for Jang Dong Gun was on a daily basis and 4 days in a row (thanks to him being in a foreign country where we can greet him and send him off in the airport and the 2 Missha events), this year we were only able to see him once in his homeland. But of course it was satisfying nonetheless.

This year we met up in Coex Mall at about 10.30am to 11am and the meeting place was somewhat a challenge to find since it was in place that was under renovation so the sign literally do not exist, But for the love of DG this is
a challenge that I was willingly to take. I was lucky enough that before my hunt began it was already over since
I saw Adonis International had already gathered together and started to move towards the venue. There were about
100+ of us and to me it was a rather impressive sight walking together through a mall. Like a lost little duckling, I join the group proudly. It was great to see the familiar faces and meet up with the new ones. The first thing that greet us when we arrived at the venue was a beautiful "samsung gift card" poster that cause my heart to flutter and my hand to my handbag to grab my camera. We have to line up to register and to pick our seat numbers, get all those goodies from the sponsors, lucky draw to get DG souvenir and best of all we were asked to write a question to ask DG. This year we got 2 bags of goodies that was placed in 2 beautiful paper-bag with DG's pictures on it. One was from Chung Jung Won and another bag from SK Telecom. The goodies include a variety of cooking product from Chung Jung Won, like some drinking vinegar, seaweed, chili and mushroom paste, and a bottle of soy sauce (that may thought was a beverage), Hera Homme facial set, "special" made Korean guide book for Adonis, a fan and most important DG's birthday biscuit. And to my surprise a sheet of paper telling us that we will be playing some games with DG and winners will be able to get a gift from DG on stage (I will talk more about the games later).

While I was drooling over the pictures on the bag, we were told that at 12.30pm we can line
up to buy souvenirs. Since, it was always a rare opportunity to be able to purchase such treats I forgone my lunch to get in line. But before doing that I went to the another line to purchase DG's special Samsung gift card set. They were 5 different style to choose from. Aside from the previous one with DG's movie pictures on it, they were two new one from the image of "Big Big Credit Card CF". All of them were so beautiful, so it was easy for me to decide which one to get. I bought them all. Then I proceed to the next line, after some time of anticipation since
we have no idea what was on sale, when it was my turn to get to the booth to buy the souvenirs I was informed
due to the limited amount of things available , I could only buy one set of each and the bad news was I could
only choose one type of key chain. Ahhh.. the agony of choosing but it was a decision to make nonetheless. I got
a clock, a ceramic set with my absolute favorite DG's expression from the second Chung Jung Won CF pictures and a key
chain. I was satisfied. The line was really long and the souvenirs were sold out in less than an hour and
half ( I pad myself for making the right decision). The hall was getting crowded with more fans, and there were more posters in the hall for the fans to take pictures with, one from Hera and another from Samsung camera. Oh, there was also one where you can be the bride of DG from Samsung Card.
