When discussed about the development of an actor in the country, veteran actor Ann Sung Ki said, Korean movie actor should learn how to challenge themselves by playing different type of roles, and at the same time participate in the production of the movie. "Aside from commercialized movies, movies that are controversial, artistic
and creative (which are not commercialized) should also be emphasized. An actor should not only pay attention to
box office but should focus more on the artistic value of the movie. Like before, Jang Dong Gun turned down a lot of commercialize movie and chose to participate in "The Coast Guard" instead, Jang Dong Gun as a pioneer had set an example/role model for other actors in the country, we should have more actor like Jang Dong Gun.

Personal Note from Peipei about DG's history (The following information is from me and does not represent the website) : After the huge success of Chingu in 2001 and a reasonable success of 2009 Lost Memories in 2002, many were surprised and shocked that DG had chosen "the Coast Guard" which was directed by a very controversial-independent-low budget director Kim Ki Duk (at that time the movie that had lead Kim Ki Duk to be a world renowned director "Spring, Summer, Autumn,Winter..and Spring" was not shot yet and he had not received any Best Director Awards at Berlin and Venice Film Festival yet) as his next project. Before the movie was released many have doubts and even questioned Jang Dong Gun's choice. But when the movie was released, famous movie magazine Film 2.0 chose/named DG as the "Public Figure of the year 2002" and quote him as a very talented actor and one of the minority among actors that know how to make use of opportunities and pave the path to become a successful actor.
